As OpenLM transitions to the next generation of license managementAnnapurna—you don’t need to abandon your existing setup to get started. You can run the legacy version of OpenLM and Annapurna in parallel, which lets you explore the new platform without interrupting your current operations.

Here’s how to get started.

Register for Annapurna Cloud

First, sign up for Annapurna Cloud. Once your environment is ready, you can start connecting components.

Generate authentication files

Use the Identity Service to generate the authentication files you’ll need to connect your agents and services to Annapurna. These files secure communication between your on-prem and cloud components.

Generate authorization files for the components.

Reuse your existing Brokers

There’s no need to reinstall the OpenLM Broker. You can connect your existing Brokers to Annapurna by:

  • Connecting the Broker to Annapurna Cloud
  • Approving the Broker in Brokers Hub
  • Approving the license managers linked to the Broker

This makes it easy to test Annapurna without changing your current setup.

Download the components you need

Before you begin, make sure you have access to the latest installers: Download OpenLM components
This includes the Cloud Broker Agent, DSA, and more.

Install the Cloud Broker Agent (optional)

Want to monitor cloud-hosted license services? Install the Cloud Broker Agent to track the usage of remote or cloud-native license managers. It’s a great way to see how Annapurna handles cloud-based monitoring.

Install the Annapurna DSA alongside the legacy one

You can install the Directory Synchronization Agent (DSA) for Annapurna even if you’re already using the legacy version. The DSA works with the Directory Synchronization Service (DSS) to retrieve sync definitions, collect user data, and send it back to Annapurna.

You can install it on any machine in your network. Keep in mind:

• For local directories (like LDAP), the machine must have network access to the directory

• For cloud directories (like Azure AD or Google Workspace), the machine must have internet access

Workstation Agent compatibility

Right now, the Annapurna Workstation Agent can’t run on the same machine as the legacy Workstation Agent. However, beta versions are available for testing in isolated environments.

Wrapping up

Running OpenLM Legacy and Annapurna in parallel lets you explore the next generation of license management. You can test features, validate integrations, and plan your migration—all without affecting your production environment.
