OpenLM Server version

OpenLM Server version is an official maintenance release to OpenLM version 2.0. It contains some bug fixes to problems found in previous versions and enhancements. We recommend that all users of previous OpenLM Server 2.0 versions would upgrade to this latest version.

What’s new in OpenLM Server (August 12, 2014)

New Features:

License Utilization chart was replaced by Scatter/Line chart because this chart is more suitable when scaling large data.


Fixed Issues:

– 0002175: [OpenLM Server] Session archiving sets delayed end time when session ends in same minute as it started.

– 0002174: [OpenLM Server] Data completion considers users/workstations with case difference as different.

– 0002150: [EasyAdmin] License Usage Report: Value displays wrong for “Max” line in license usage report.

1. Before upgrading please make sure your system is compliant with the OpenLM System requirements.

2. If the OpenLM server (of any version) has been already installed on the machine for a period longer than the Evaluation period, A license file will be required . Please make sure you have one before proceeding with the upgrade process.

In order to obtain a valid OpenLM license file, please contact OpenLM support, and provide your MAC address and Hostname (case sensitive).

Upgrading the OpenLM Server (Internal Firebird Database)

In order to upgrade to version

1. Download the OpenLM Server installation file from the ‘Downloads’ section in the OpenLM site.

2. Stop the OpenLM Server service

3. Backup your DB file (Typically located in: C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenLM\OpenLM Server\db)

4. Make sure ALL windows are closed; especially the services window.

5. For OpenLM versions 1.7, Install the new version on top of the existing one.

6. If prompted to do so, contact OpenLM to obtain an up-to-date license file. Please provide your MAC address and Hostname (case sensitive) for that. Copy this file to the

C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenLM\OpenLM Server\License   folder, and restart the OpenLM Server service.

How to upgrade?


Backup your OpenLM Database and install the new version on-top of your existing version. This upgrade does not include a database upgrade, only software.


OpenLM New Pre-Release Version

OpenLM Pre-release version

Pre-release version is the forth pre-release version, it includes bug fixes and new functionality. Note that this is still a pre-release version not intended for production use, please don’t upgrade your production system.

Please check for upgrade instructions at the end of this message.

How to upgrade

Upgrading from version 1.8.* using Firebird database

Upgrading an existing 1.8.* is done by installing the new version on-top of the existing version. OpenLM will automatically upgrade the database to the new DB version.

At this stage we only support embedded Firebird installation. A release that supports external databases will be release soon.

Upgrading from Pre-release version or

Upgrade from version is not supported. In order to install version please follow these steps:

  1. Open the OpenLM Server configuration form->Advanced tab and export the system settings.
  2. Uninstall the existing OpenLM Server version.
  3. Fully remove the installation folder typically located in: C:\Program Files\OpenLM\OpenLM Server
  4. Install the new version of the software –
  5. Start the OpenLM Server configuration form->Advanced tab and import the file that contains your system settings.

Upgrading from Pre-release version and (Firebird database ONLY)

Upgrade from pre-release version and is done in two stages:

  • Software upgrade
  • Database upgrade

Software upgrade: Install the new version on top of the existing version.

  1. Starting from the Setup Wizard window, click Next
  2. Run this file window, click Run
  3. EULA Window, select I agree  and click Next
  4. Installation window, click Next
  5. Confirm Installation window, click Next
  6. Pop-up window to install this software, click Next
  7. Installation complete, click Close

Database upgrade (Needed only when upgrading from version

Note: Database upgrade is not needed when upgrading from version If you are upgrading from this version check the upgrade instruction as detailed in this post.

Version (Broker version

Version is a maintenance release to version 1.7. It contains some bug fixes to problems found in previous versions. We  recommend that users to whom these problems may be relevant to upgrade their system to this version.

This maintenance release includes a more advanced version ( of the OpenLM Broker.


In order to upgrade to version

  1. Backup your DB file (Typically located in: C:\Program Files\OpenLM\OpenLM Server\db)
  2. Stop the OpenLM Server service
  3. Make sure ALL windows are closed; especially the services window. Some of our customers experienced “error 1001″ as a result of not closing this window.
  4. Install the new version on top of the existing one.

New in version

OpenLM Server:

  1. Fixed in License activity: Counting produced an exception when the request contained a Vendor name.
  2. Fixed in OpenLM Server Configuration Form: Clicking the grid title when the servers’ grid was empty produced an exception.
  3. Fixed: Option file policy settings was not saved.
  4. Fixed: OpenLM Service doesn’t load on machine startup.
  5. Easyadmin – when there is only one option file it becomes the default.
  6. Error for SQL Server users when sorting by last user in workstations window (Bug #328).
  7. Easyadmin Active Agent window (EasyAdmin → Administration → Active Agent): fixed visualization problem in spinner field (Bug #329).
  8. Configuration form – crashed when deleting empty server (Bug #332).
  9. AD Synchronization feature – Users are enabled to select which attribute would be used as a synchronization field between LDAP and the licensing system (Active Directory, post or pre win 2000 username Bug #189)
  10. AD Synchronization bug fix: Synchronizing group names longer than 50 characters.
  11. Feature in EasyAdmin “License Usage” report: Show more details: server, vendor, feature. (Bug #323).
  12. Fixed: Multiple License draw for the same user and workstation is not reported correctly (Bug #335).

OpenLM Broker (

  1. Fixed Linux permissions problem in setup.
  2. Improved the interface of the license server detection process (Bug #278).
  3. Removed quote marks (“”) from the command line (Bug #27).
  4. A The broker command template is ready for the user at the beginning of the configuration (Bug #293).
  5. Use the term “OpenLM Server” instead of “Server” in the Broker configuration window (Bug #296).
  6. Feature: Facilitate global update of the Broker commands’ path to all the commands of a specific port.
  7. Fixed installation problem: Support installation on top of java 64 bit version. A 32bit version installation workaround is no longer required.
  8. Add pane to installation, explaining about the configuration tool, to prevent confusion.
  9. Improve the automatic detection of licese servers.

After upgrading the OpenLM Server version, you may experience problems with the “Licenses” window in the Easyadmin web application. In this case, open the “User Settings” window, click the “Clear Settings” button and “OK” for the problem to be resolved.
