Follow these steps to configure OpenLM to monitor license usage and retrieve statistics from the Hosted HyperWorks Units (HHWU) License Manager.

## Requirements

Before starting, install:

1. OpenLM Server v2.x on a machine in your organization
2. OpenLM Broker v22.6 or higher on the same machine as the HHWU License Manager

## Monitoring capabilities

| LM Type in the Broker | License totals | License usage | Denials | Borrowing | Expiration date | Redundancy | Report resolution |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| HHWU | Yes | Yes | No | No | Yes | No | Minutes |

Using the Broker also allows buffered communication and allows remote start and stop of the license manager service.

## OpenLM Broker configuration

:::note
OpenLM Broker must be installed and configured to report to OpenLM Server before proceeding.
:::

### Method 1 — Broker desktop UI

1. Open the OpenLM Broker desktop application.
2. Select **Add Port**.
3. Enter the port number (for example, `888`).
4. From **License Manager Type**, select **Hosted HyperWorks Units (HHWU)** and select **Apply**.

5. Go to the **Commands** node. In **Update path for commands**, browse to the folder where the HHWU command-line utilities are located and select **Update**.
6. Under **data_inquiry**, select **Execute** and verify a valid output. Select **Apply** before running **Execute** again.
   The command will query:
   - Total number of registered licenses in the vendor license file
   - Number of licenses currently checked out by users
7. In **Vendors**, enter `Altair` as the vendor name and select **Apply**.
8. Restart the Broker.

### Method 2 — Broker web UI

1. Open the Broker web UI at `http://localhost:5090`.
   If the default port is in use, try `5091` or `5092`.
2. Go to **License Managers** → **Add License Manager**.
3. Select **Hosted HyperWorks Units (HHWU)** from the drop-down list, enter the port number, and select **Add**.

4. In **Commands**, set the **Executable path** to the folder containing the HHWU command-line utilities and select **Execute**.

5. In **Vendors**, select **Add Vendor**, enter `Altair`, and select **Continue**.

6. Select **Save**.

## OpenLM Server configuration

Once the Broker is configured, approve the license manager in EasyAdmin:

1. Open EasyAdmin.
2. In **License Servers**, find the row for the new HHWU entry (unapproved rows are highlighted red) and double-click it.
3. Give it a descriptive name or leave the default, keep **Type** as **OpenLM Generic**, and select **Approve**.

If automatic configuration fails, configure manually:

1. Go to **Start → Administration → License Manager Servers**.
2. Select **Add LM**.
3. Set **Type** to **Hosted HyperWorks Units (HHWU)**.
4. Enter a description (for example, `HHWU`).
5. Set the **Time Zone** to match the license server location.
6. Enter the hostname and port from the Broker configuration.
7. Leave **Triad Configuration** unchecked and **Use Broker** checked.
8. Select **Save**.

## Verify your configuration

1. Open EasyAdmin.
2. Go to **Start → Widgets → License Servers**.
3. Ensure the HHWU entry shows a green circle icon.

:::note
It may take up to 3 minutes for the status to update after a new connection.
